Storm Front is the seventh book in the Virgil Flowers series by John Sandford. The audiobook is narrated by Eric Conger and runs for approximately 9 hours and 21 minutes. The story follows Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent Virgil Flowers as he investigates a series of murders that seem to be connected to a group of environmental activists.

The story begins with a prologue that sets the stage for the rest of the book. A group of environmental activists, known as the River Rats, are planning a protest against a proposed copper mine in northern Minnesota. The mine is owned by a company called Polaris, which is run by a wealthy businessman named Bill Judd. The River Rats are determined to stop the mine from being built, and they are willing to use any means necessary to do so.

The first chapter of the book introduces Virgil Flowers, who is called in to investigate a murder in the small town of Red Wing. The victim is a local businessman named Bill Smalls, who was shot in his own home. The murder seems to be a random act of violence, but Virgil soon discovers that there may be more to the case than meets the eye.

As Virgil investigates the murder, he begins to uncover a web of corruption and deceit that reaches all the way to the top of Polaris. He also discovers that the River Rats may be involved in the murder, and that they may be planning something even more dangerous than a simple protest.

The audiobook is fast-paced and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the listener guessing. Eric Conger does an excellent job of narrating the story, bringing the characters to life with his distinctive voice and excellent pacing.

One of the strengths of the book is its characters. Virgil Flowers is a likable and relatable protagonist, with a dry sense of humor and a no-nonsense approach to his job. He is also a bit of a ladies’ man, and there are several romantic subplots woven throughout the story.

The supporting cast is also well-drawn, with a variety of interesting and complex characters. There is the wealthy and powerful Bill Judd, who will stop at nothing to protect his business interests. There is also the enigmatic River Rat leader, who goes by the name of “Crow.” And there are several other members of the River Rats, each with their own motivations and agendas.

The audiobook also does an excellent job of exploring the themes of environmentalism and corporate greed. The conflict between the River Rats and Polaris is a microcosm of the larger debate over the role of industry in society. The book raises important questions about the balance between economic development and environmental protection, and it does so in a way that is both thought-provoking and entertaining.

Overall, Storm Front is an excellent addition to the Virgil Flowers series. It is a well-written and engaging mystery, with a cast of memorable characters and a timely and important message. The audiobook is expertly narrated by Eric Conger, and it is sure to keep listeners on the edge of their seats from beginning to end.
