Rage of a Demon King is the third book in The Serpentwar Saga by Raymond E. Feist. The audiobook is narrated by Peter Joyce and is approximately 22 hours and 37 minutes long. The book was published in 1997 and is a continuation of the story from the previous two books, Shadow of a Dark Queen and Rise of a Merchant Prince.

The story takes place in the world of Midkemia, where the Kingdom of the Isles is under threat from the Emerald Queen and her army of Serpent People. The Emerald Queen is a powerful sorceress who seeks to conquer the Kingdom of the Isles and enslave its people. The main character of the story is Erik von Darkmoor, a young man who is a member of the Conclave of Shadows, a secret organization that seeks to protect the Kingdom of the Isles from the Emerald Queen and her army.

The story begins with Erik and his companions, Roo Avery and Calis, traveling to the distant land of Novindus to seek the help of the Pantathians, a race of shape-shifting creatures who are enemies of the Emerald Queen. The Pantathians are reluctant to help the humans, but Erik manages to convince them to join the fight against the Emerald Queen.

Meanwhile, the Emerald Queen has summoned a demon king named Belasco to aid her in her conquest of the Kingdom of the Isles. Belasco is a powerful demon who has the ability to possess the bodies of humans and use them as his vessels. The Emerald Queen hopes that Belasco will be able to defeat the humans and help her achieve her goal of ruling over the Kingdom of the Isles.

As the story progresses, Erik and his companions must navigate the treacherous political landscape of Novindus and convince the Pantathians to join their cause. They also must deal with the threat of Belasco, who is possessing the bodies of powerful individuals and using them to further the Emerald Queen’s goals.

The audiobook is narrated by Peter Joyce, who does an excellent job of bringing the story to life. His voice is clear and easy to understand, and he does a great job of differentiating between the various characters in the story. His narration adds depth and emotion to the story, making it a truly immersive experience.

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the world-building. Feist has created a rich and detailed world, filled with interesting characters and complex political relationships. The audiobook does an excellent job of bringing this world to life, with vivid descriptions of the various locations and cultures in the story.

Another strength of the audiobook is the character development. Erik von Darkmoor is a compelling protagonist, and his journey throughout the story is both engaging and emotional. His relationships with his companions, Roo and Calis, are also well-developed, and their interactions add depth and humor to the story.

The villains in the story are also well-written, with the Emerald Queen and Belasco both being formidable foes for the protagonists. The Emerald Queen is a complex character, with motivations that are both understandable and terrifying. Belasco, on the other hand, is a pure evil force, with no redeeming qualities.

The action in the story is also well-done, with several exciting battle scenes that are both intense and satisfying. Feist does an excellent job of balancing the action with the character development, making the story feel both exciting and emotionally engaging.

One of the few weaknesses of the audiobook is the pacing. The story is quite long, and there are times when it feels like it is dragging. However, this is a minor issue, and the overall quality of the story more than makes up for it.

Overall, Rage of a Demon King is an excellent audiobook that is well worth listening to. The world-building, character development, and action are all top-notch, and Peter Joyce’s narration is excellent. If you are a fan of epic fantasy, then this audiobook is definitely worth checking out.
