Prisoner of Night is the sixteenth book in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series by J.R. Ward. It is a novella that tells the story of Duran, a former member of the Black Dagger Brotherhood who has been imprisoned for centuries. The audiobook is narrated by Jim Frangione, who has narrated all of the previous books in the series.

The story begins with Duran being released from prison by a group of vampires who are seeking revenge against the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Duran is hesitant to join them, as he has no desire to get involved in their vendetta. However, he is drawn to a female vampire named Ahmare, who is also seeking revenge against the Brotherhood for the death of her brother.

Ahmare and Duran team up to find a powerful weapon that the Brotherhood possesses, which they believe will give them the upper hand in their fight. Along the way, they face numerous obstacles and challenges, including a group of rogue vampires who are also after the weapon.

As they work together, Ahmare and Duran begin to develop feelings for each other. However, Duran is haunted by his past and the mistakes he has made, and he is reluctant to let anyone get close to him. Ahmare, on the other hand, is determined to break down his walls and show him that he is worthy of love and redemption.

The audiobook is expertly narrated by Jim Frangione, who brings the characters to life with his distinctive voice and engaging performance. His narration is clear and easy to follow, and he does an excellent job of conveying the emotions and motivations of the characters.

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the way it explores the complex relationships between the characters. Ahmare and Duran’s relationship is at the heart of the story, and Frangione does an excellent job of capturing the chemistry and tension between them. He also does a great job of portraying the other characters in the story, including the members of the Black Dagger Brotherhood and the other vampires they encounter.

Another strength of the audiobook is the way it builds on the mythology of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. Fans of the series will appreciate the references to previous books and the way the story fits into the larger narrative. However, newcomers to the series may find some of the references and terminology confusing, as the series has a complex mythology that can be difficult to follow at times.

Overall, Prisoner of Night is a well-written and engaging novella that will appeal to fans of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. The audiobook is expertly narrated by Jim Frangione, who brings the characters to life with his engaging performance. While the story may be confusing for newcomers to the series, fans of the series will appreciate the way it builds on the mythology and explores the complex relationships between the characters.
