Peace Talks is the sixteenth book in the Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. The audiobook version of the novel is narrated by James Marsters, who has been the voice of the series since the beginning. The audiobook is approximately 15 hours and 30 minutes long and was released on July 14, 2020.

The story of Peace Talks picks up where the previous book, Skin Game, left off. Harry Dresden, the protagonist of the series, is a wizard and private investigator who lives in Chicago. He is also the Winter Knight, a position he was forced into by the faerie queen Mab. The Winter Knight is a powerful and dangerous position, and Harry is constantly struggling to maintain his own identity while also serving Mab.

At the beginning of Peace Talks, Harry is summoned to a meeting of the supernatural powers of the world. The meeting is being held in Chicago, and Harry is tasked with providing security for the event. The meeting is meant to be a peace summit, where the various factions can come together and discuss their differences in a civilized manner.

However, things quickly go awry. The peace talks are interrupted by a series of attacks, and Harry finds himself in the middle of a dangerous and complex situation. He must navigate the politics of the supernatural world while also trying to protect his friends and loved ones.

One of the strengths of the Dresden Files series is its world-building. Butcher has created a rich and complex world filled with supernatural creatures and magical powers. The audiobook version of Peace Talks does an excellent job of bringing this world to life. Marsters’ narration is engaging and immersive, and he does an excellent job of bringing the various characters to life.

One of the standout features of the audiobook is Marsters’ performance of Harry Dresden himself. Marsters has been the voice of Harry since the beginning of the series, and he has truly made the character his own. He captures Harry’s wit, sarcasm, and vulnerability perfectly, and his performance is a joy to listen to.

The plot of Peace Talks is fast-paced and action-packed. There are a lot of moving parts to the story, and Butcher does an excellent job of keeping everything organized and coherent. The audiobook version of the novel does an excellent job of conveying the tension and excitement of the story.

One of the themes of Peace Talks is the idea of family. Harry is a character who has always struggled with his own sense of identity and belonging. He lost his parents at a young age and was raised by his uncle, who was also a wizard. Throughout the series, Harry has formed close bonds with a variety of characters, including his apprentice Molly, his friend Michael, and his love interest Karrin Murphy.

In Peace Talks, Harry is forced to confront the idea of family in a new way. He is reunited with his estranged brother, Thomas, who is a vampire. Harry and Thomas have a complicated relationship, and their interactions in the novel are some of the most emotionally charged moments in the story.

Another theme of the novel is the idea of power and responsibility. Harry is a character who has always been reluctant to use his power, knowing that it comes with a great deal of responsibility. As the Winter Knight, he is forced to use his power in ways that he finds uncomfortable and morally ambiguous.

In Peace Talks, Harry is forced to confront the consequences of his actions. He must grapple with the idea that his power has real-world consequences, and that he cannot simply ignore the responsibilities that come with it.

Overall, the audiobook version of Peace Talks is an excellent addition to the Dresden Files series.
