Ocean Prey is a thrilling audiobook written by John Sandford and narrated by Richard Ferrone. It is the 31st book in the Lucas Davenport series and was released in April 2021. The audiobook is approximately 11 hours and 38 minutes long and is published by Penguin Audio.

The story of Ocean Prey revolves around a drug cartel that is operating in the Gulf of Mexico. The cartel is responsible for smuggling drugs into the United States and is known for its ruthless tactics. The FBI has been trying to take down the cartel for years, but they have been unsuccessful. The situation becomes more urgent when the cartel starts targeting the families of FBI agents.

Lucas Davenport, a former detective and now a US Marshal, is called in to help with the investigation. He is joined by his protégé, Rae Givens, and together they set out to track down the cartel. Their investigation takes them from the Gulf of Mexico to the streets of New Orleans, where they encounter a web of corruption and deceit.

The audiobook is fast-paced and action-packed, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the listener engaged. The characters are well-developed and the dialogue is sharp and witty. The narration by Richard Ferrone is excellent, with his deep, gravelly voice perfectly capturing the tension and excitement of the story.

One of the strengths of Ocean Prey is its portrayal of the drug cartel. Sandford does an excellent job of showing the inner workings of the cartel, from the low-level drug runners to the high-ranking bosses. He also shows the impact that the cartel has on the communities it operates in, with its violence and corruption spreading like a cancer.

Another strength of the audiobook is its depiction of the Gulf of Mexico. Sandford’s descriptions of the sea and the wildlife that inhabits it are vivid and evocative. The listener can almost feel the salt spray on their face and hear the cries of the seagulls.

The relationship between Lucas Davenport and Rae Givens is also a highlight of the audiobook. Davenport is a seasoned law enforcement officer, while Givens is a young, ambitious agent. Their dynamic is both entertaining and engaging, with Davenport acting as a mentor to Givens while also learning from her.

The plot of Ocean Prey is well-crafted, with plenty of action and suspense to keep the listener on the edge of their seat. Sandford does an excellent job of balancing the various plot threads, weaving them together into a cohesive whole. The ending is satisfying and leaves the listener wanting more.

Overall, Ocean Prey is an excellent audiobook that will appeal to fans of the Lucas Davenport series as well as newcomers to the series. The combination of Sandford’s writing and Ferrone’s narration make for a thrilling listening experience that is not to be missed.
