The story begins with John Matthew, who is still recovering from the events of the previous book, Lover Avenged. He is struggling to come to terms with the fact that he is a vampire and is dealing with the loss of his mate, Xhex. Xhex was kidnapped by Lash, a former member of the Brotherhood who has turned to the side of the Lessening Society, the enemy of the vampires. John is determined to find Xhex and bring her back to safety.

One of the things that I love about the Black Dagger Brotherhood series is the world-building. J.R.
