Bad Blood is the fourth book in the Virgil Flowers series by John Sandford. The audiobook is narrated by Eric Conger and runs for approximately 10 hours and 31 minutes. The story is set in the small town of Bluestem, Minnesota, where Virgil Flowers, a Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent, is called in to investigate a murder.

The story begins with the murder of a wealthy woman, Gina Hemming, who is found dead in her bathtub. The murder weapon is a shotgun, and the killer has left behind a message written in blood on the bathroom mirror. The message reads, “I was here. You’re next.”

Virgil Flowers is called in to investigate the murder, and he quickly realizes that the case is going to be complicated. Gina Hemming was a controversial figure in the town, and many people had reasons to want her dead. She was involved in a bitter dispute with her neighbors over a piece of land, and she had also been involved in a number of extramarital affairs.

As Virgil begins to investigate the case, he discovers that there is a lot of bad blood in the town. The residents of Bluestem are divided into two factions, those who support Gina Hemming and those who hate her. The tension between the two groups is palpable, and Virgil realizes that he is going to have to tread carefully if he wants to solve the case.

One of the key suspects in the case is Gina Hemming’s husband, Jerry. Jerry is a wealthy businessman who had been having an affair with one of Gina’s friends. He had also been involved in a number of shady business deals, and there were rumors that he had been embezzling money from his company.

Another suspect is Gina’s neighbor, Bill Judd. Bill had been involved in a long-standing dispute with Gina over a piece of land that she had purchased. He had also been involved in a number of altercations with Gina and had threatened her on several occasions.

As Virgil delves deeper into the case, he discovers that there are a number of other suspects, including Gina’s ex-husband, her business partner, and a local farmer who had been involved in a dispute with Gina over the use of pesticides.

The investigation takes a dramatic turn when another murder occurs. This time, the victim is one of the suspects in the case. The murder weapon is the same shotgun that was used to kill Gina Hemming, and the message written in blood on the bathroom mirror is the same.

Virgil realizes that he is dealing with a serial killer, and he begins to race against time to catch the killer before he strikes again. The tension in the town reaches a boiling point as the residents become increasingly paranoid and suspicious of each other.

The climax of the story is a tense and thrilling showdown between Virgil and the killer. The killer is revealed to be someone who had been hiding in plain sight all along, and the motive for the murders is both shocking and unexpected.

Overall, Bad Blood is a gripping and suspenseful thriller that will keep listeners on the edge of their seats. Eric Conger’s narration is excellent, and he does a great job of bringing the characters to life. The story is well-written, with plenty of twists and turns to keep listeners guessing until the very end. If you’re a fan of crime fiction, then this audiobook is definitely worth checking out.
