Ghost Story is the thirteenth book in The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It was published in 2011 and is narrated by James Marsters. The audiobook is 17 hours and 36 minutes long and is available on Audible.

The story begins with Harry Dresden, the protagonist, dying. He is shot and killed by an unknown assailant and his spirit is sent to the afterlife. However, he is not allowed to move on to the next world and is instead sent back to the mortal world as a ghost. He is tasked with solving his own murder and finding out who was behind it.

As a ghost, Harry is unable to interact with the physical world and is invisible to most people. He is only able to communicate with a select few, including his friend Bob, a spirit of intellect, and Mortimer Lindquist, a necromancer. Harry soon discovers that his death was not an isolated incident and that there have been several other deaths in the supernatural community.

Harry’s investigation leads him to the island of Demonreach, where he discovers that his death was orchestrated by his old enemy, the Red Court vampire, Arianna Ortega. She had hired a hitman to kill Harry and had also been responsible for the other deaths in the supernatural community. Harry also learns that his death was part of a larger plan to destroy the White Council, the governing body of wizards.

With the help of his friends, Harry is able to stop Arianna’s plan and save the White Council. He is also able to move on to the afterlife, but not before making a deal with the island of Demonreach to become its warden.

The audiobook is narrated by James Marsters, who has narrated all of the previous books in the series. Marsters does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and capturing the tone of the story. His performance is engaging and keeps the listener hooked throughout the entire audiobook.

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the world-building. Butcher has created a rich and complex world filled with supernatural creatures and magic. The audiobook does an excellent job of bringing this world to life and immersing the listener in it. The descriptions of the various creatures and locations are vivid and detailed, making it easy to visualize the world.

Another strength of the audiobook is the character development. Harry Dresden is a complex and flawed character, and the audiobook does an excellent job of exploring his character and motivations. The supporting characters are also well-developed and add depth to the story.

The plot of the audiobook is well-paced and engaging. The mystery of Harry’s murder keeps the listener hooked throughout the entire audiobook, and the twists and turns keep the story fresh and exciting. The audiobook also explores themes of redemption and sacrifice, adding depth to the story.

One of the weaknesses of the audiobook is that it may be difficult for new listeners to jump into the series at this point. The Dresden Files is a long-running series, and there are many references to events and characters from previous books. However, the audiobook does provide some context and background information, making it possible for new listeners to follow the story.

Overall, Ghost Story is an excellent addition to The Dresden Files series. The audiobook is well-narrated and brings the world and characters to life. The plot is engaging and keeps the listener hooked throughout the entire audiobook. Fans of the series will not be disappointed, and new listeners may find themselves hooked on the series after listening to this audiobook.
