The story begins with Alex waking up in a hospital bed, not knowing how he got there. He soon discovers that the world has changed drastically since he last remembered. The virus has wiped out most of the population, and the few survivors are struggling to survive in a world without law and order. Alex is determined to find his family and sets out on a journey to do so.
As Alex travels through the post-apocalyptic world, he encounters various groups of survivors, some of whom are friendly, while others are hostile. He also faces numerous challenges, including finding food and water, avoiding dangerous animals, and dealing with other survivors who are willing to do whatever it takes to survive.
One of the most interesting aspects of the audiobook is the way it explores the concept of law and order. In a world without a functioning government, the survivors are left to create their own rules and regulations. Some groups have formed their own communities and have established their own laws, while others have resorted to violence and chaos.
Alex is a fascinating character, and the audiobook does an excellent job of exploring his motivations and struggles. He is a man who is determined to find his family, but he is also struggling to come to terms with the new world he finds himself in. He is forced to make difficult decisions and is often faced with moral dilemmas.
The narration by Christopher Boucher is excellent. He does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and creating a sense of tension and suspense throughout the audiobook. His voice is clear and easy to listen to, and he does an excellent job of conveying the emotions of the characters.
One of the strengths of the audiobook is the world-building. Eric Vall has created a vivid and detailed post-apocalyptic world that feels both realistic and terrifying. The descriptions of the landscape and the various groups of survivors are excellent, and the audiobook does an excellent job of immersing the listener in this new world.
The audiobook is not without its flaws, however. Some of the dialogue can be a bit clunky, and some of the characters feel a bit one-dimensional. Additionally, the pacing can be a bit slow at times, and some listeners may find themselves getting bored during some of the slower sections.
Overall, Without Law is an excellent post-apocalyptic audiobook that is well worth listening to. The world-building is excellent, the characters are interesting, and the narration is top-notch. While it may not be perfect, it is a great start to what promises to be an exciting series.
