Sourcery is a fantasy novel by Terry Pratchett, published in 1988. It is the fifth book in the Discworld series and follows the adventures of Rincewind, a wizard, and his companion, Conina, as they try to stop a young sourcerer from taking over the world.

The audiobook version of Sourcery is narrated by Nigel Planer, who has also narrated several other Discworld novels. Planer’s narration is excellent, and he brings the characters to life with his distinctive voices and accents.

The story begins with the birth of a sourcerer, a wizard who is born with the ability to use magic from birth. The sourcerer’s father, Ipslore the Red, is a powerful wizard who has been banished from the Unseen University, the school for wizards in Ankh-Morpork. Ipslore wants to use his son’s power to take over the world and restore the glory of wizardry.

Meanwhile, Rincewind, a failed wizard who is now a tour guide, is visited by the Archchancellor of the Unseen University, who tells him that he is the only one who can stop the sourcerer. Rincewind is reluctant to get involved, but he is soon joined by Conina, a skilled thief and the daughter of Cohen the Barbarian.

Together, Rincewind and Conina set out to stop the sourcerer, but they are pursued by a group of wizards who want to capture the sourcerer for themselves. Along the way, they encounter a variety of strange and dangerous creatures, including a talking orangutan, a group of trolls, and a giant spider.

One of the strengths of Sourcery is its humor. Pratchett has a gift for satire and parody, and he uses it to great effect in this book. The characters are all larger than life, and their interactions are often hilarious. Rincewind, in particular, is a great comic character, with his cowardice and his tendency to get into trouble.

Another strength of the book is its world-building. The Discworld is a rich and complex world, full of interesting characters and cultures. Pratchett has created a world that is both familiar and strange, and he uses it to explore a variety of themes, including power, politics, and the nature of magic.

The audiobook version of Sourcery is a great way to experience the book. Nigel Planer’s narration is excellent, and he captures the humor and the drama of the story perfectly. His voices for the different characters are distinctive and memorable, and he brings the world of the Discworld to life in a way that is both entertaining and engaging.

Overall, Sourcery is a great book, and the audiobook version is a great way to experience it. Whether you are a fan of fantasy or just looking for a good laugh, this book is well worth checking out.
