Mercy Blade is the third book in the Jane Yellowrock series by author Faith Hunter. The audiobook version of the novel is narrated by Khristine Hvam, who does an excellent job of bringing the story to life. The audiobook is approximately 13 hours and 27 minutes long and is available on Audible.

The story follows Jane Yellowrock, a shape-shifting skinwalker who works as a vampire hunter in New Orleans. In Mercy Blade, Jane is hired by the vampire council to investigate a series of murders that have been committed in the city. The victims are all vampires, and the council is concerned that a rogue hunter is targeting their kind.

As Jane begins her investigation, she discovers that the murders are linked to a group of humans who are using a new drug called “Vampire’s Kiss” to enhance their abilities. The drug is highly addictive and dangerous, and the humans who use it are becoming increasingly violent and unstable.

Jane also finds herself caught up in a power struggle between the vampire council and the local werewolf pack. The pack is led by Leo Pellissier, a powerful and charismatic werewolf who is determined to protect his people at all costs. Jane is torn between her loyalty to the council and her growing attraction to Leo.

The audiobook version of Mercy Blade is a thrilling and engaging listen. Khristine Hvam does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life, and her narration is clear and easy to follow. She captures the essence of Jane Yellowrock perfectly, conveying both her strength and vulnerability.

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the way it brings the setting of New Orleans to life. Hunter’s descriptions of the city are vivid and evocative, and Hvam’s narration adds an extra layer of atmosphere to the story. The audiobook also includes a helpful pronunciation guide for some of the more difficult-to-pronounce names and words.

Another strength of the audiobook is the way it handles the action scenes. Hunter’s fight scenes are always well-written, and Hvam’s narration adds an extra level of excitement to them. She does an excellent job of conveying the tension and danger of the fights, making them feel visceral and real.

The audiobook also does an excellent job of capturing the emotional depth of the story. Jane is a complex and multifaceted character, and Hvam does an excellent job of conveying her inner turmoil and conflicting emotions. The audiobook also does an excellent job of capturing the complex relationships between the characters, particularly the tension between Jane and Leo.

One of the few weaknesses of the audiobook is that it can be a bit confusing at times. There are a lot of characters and plot threads to keep track of, and it can be easy to lose track of who is who and what is going on. However, this is a minor quibble, and overall the audiobook is well-structured and easy to follow.

In conclusion, the Mercy Blade audiobook is an excellent listen for fans of the Jane Yellowrock series. Khristine Hvam’s narration is top-notch, and she does an excellent job of bringing the story to life. The audiobook is a thrilling and engaging listen, and it is highly recommended for anyone who enjoys urban fantasy or vampire fiction.
