Endymion is a science fiction novel written by Dan Simmons and published in 1996. It is the third book in the Hyperion Cantos series and follows the story of Raul Endymion, a soldier from the planet Hyperion, who is tasked with protecting a young girl named Aenea, who is believed to be the messiah of a new religion.

The audiobook version of Endymion is narrated by Victor Bevine, who does an excellent job of bringing the story to life. His voice is clear and easy to understand, and he does a great job of differentiating between the various characters in the book.

The story of Endymion takes place several hundred years after the events of the previous book in the series, The Fall of Hyperion. The Hegemony of Man, which was once the dominant power in the galaxy, has fallen, and the Pax, a theocratic government, has taken its place. The Pax is a brutal regime that rules with an iron fist, and anyone who opposes it is quickly silenced.

Raul Endymion is a soldier who has been exiled from his home planet of Hyperion for his involvement in a rebellion against the Pax. He is living on the planet God’s Grove when he is approached by a mysterious woman named Rachel Weintraub, who tells him that he has been chosen to protect a young girl named Aenea.

Aenea is the daughter of the Shrike, a powerful and mysterious creature that has been worshipped as a god by some and feared by others. She is also believed to be the messiah of a new religion that is spreading throughout the galaxy, and the Pax sees her as a threat to their power.

Raul agrees to protect Aenea and sets out on a journey across the galaxy with her. Along the way, they encounter a variety of characters, including a group of cybrids (human-machine hybrids), a group of rebels fighting against the Pax, and even the Shrike itself.

One of the things that makes Endymion such a compelling story is the way that it blends science fiction with elements of religion and mythology. The Shrike, for example, is a creature that is both feared and worshipped, and its true nature is shrouded in mystery. The new religion that Aenea is believed to be the messiah of is also fascinating, as it is based on a combination of Christian and Buddhist beliefs.

Another thing that makes Endymion such a great audiobook is the way that it explores the characters’ motivations and emotions. Raul, for example, is a complex character who is torn between his loyalty to his home planet and his desire to protect Aenea. Aenea herself is also a fascinating character, as she is both wise beyond her years and still very much a child.

The audiobook version of Endymion is also well-produced, with clear sound quality and excellent pacing. The book is quite long, but the narration never feels rushed or slow, and the story is always engaging.

Overall, Endymion is a fantastic audiobook that is well worth listening to for anyone who enjoys science fiction, mythology, or stories about complex characters and their relationships. Dan Simmons has created a rich and fascinating world, and Victor Bevine’s narration brings it to life in a way that is both entertaining and thought-provoking.
