Deadline is the eighth book in the Virgil Flowers series by John Sandford. The audiobook is narrated by Eric Conger and runs for approximately 10 hours and 19 minutes. The story follows Virgil Flowers, a Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension agent, as he investigates a murder case in the small town of Trippton.

The story begins with the murder of a local newspaper editor, John Jacob Skinner, who is found dead in his office. Skinner was known for his controversial editorials and had made many enemies in the town. Virgil is called in to investigate the case and soon discovers that there are many suspects, including the victim’s wife, his mistress, and several local politicians.

As Virgil delves deeper into the case, he uncovers a web of corruption and deceit that goes all the way to the top of the town’s government. He also discovers that Skinner was working on a big story that could have exposed the corruption and that his murder was likely related to this story.

The audiobook is fast-paced and engaging, with plenty of twists and turns to keep the listener guessing. Eric Conger’s narration is excellent, and he does a great job of bringing the characters to life. His voice is clear and easy to listen to, and he does a good job of differentiating between the various characters.

One of the things that I enjoyed about this audiobook was the setting. The small town of Trippton is vividly described, and Sandford does an excellent job of capturing the atmosphere of a small town where everyone knows everyone else’s business. The characters are also well-developed, and I found myself becoming invested in their stories.

Another thing that I liked about this audiobook was the plot. The murder mystery is well-crafted, with plenty of clues and red herrings to keep the listener guessing. The story also has a political angle, with Virgil uncovering corruption at the highest levels of the town’s government. This added an extra layer of intrigue to the story and kept me engaged throughout.

Overall, I would highly recommend Deadline to anyone who enjoys murder mysteries or crime thrillers. The audiobook is well-narrated, and the story is engaging and well-crafted. Whether you’re a fan of the Virgil Flowers series or are new to the series, this audiobook is definitely worth a listen.
