The story of Club Dead follows Sookie Stackhouse, a telepathic waitress from Bon Temps, Louisiana. Sookie is dating Bill Compton, a vampire who has been living in Bon Temps for several years. However, when Bill suddenly disappears, Sookie is left to wonder what has happened to him.
Sookie soon receives a call from Eric Northman, the vampire sheriff of Area 5, who informs her that Bill has been kidnapped by a group of vampires in Mississippi. Eric asks Sookie to come to Jackson, Mississippi, to help him find Bill and bring him back to Bon Temps.
Sookie agrees to help Eric and travels to Jackson, where she meets Alcide Herveaux, a werewolf who is also searching for a missing person. Alcide agrees to help Sookie and Eric find Bill, and the three of them set out to track down the vampires who have taken him.
As they search for Bill, Sookie discovers that he has been cheating on her with another vampire, Lorena. Sookie is heartbroken by this revelation, but she continues to help Eric and Alcide in their search for Bill.
The trio eventually tracks down the vampires who have taken Bill to a club called Club Dead. Sookie and Alcide sneak into the club, while Eric stays outside to keep watch. Inside the club, Sookie and Alcide find Bill, who is being held captive by the vampire king of Mississippi, Russell Edgington.
Sookie and Alcide manage to rescue Bill, but they are caught by Russell and his followers. Russell is furious that Sookie and Alcide have interfered in his affairs, and he orders his followers to kill them.
Just as it seems that Sookie and Alcide are about to be killed, Eric arrives with a group of vampires from Area 5. A fight breaks out between the two groups, and Sookie and her friends manage to escape.
Back in Bon Temps, Sookie confronts Bill about his infidelity. Bill admits that he was only using Sookie to get information about her telepathic abilities, and that he never truly loved her. Sookie is devastated by this revelation, but she decides to move on with her life.
In the end, Sookie realizes that she has feelings for Eric, and the two of them begin a romantic relationship.
The audiobook version of Club Dead is narrated by Johanna Parker, who does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life. Parker’s narration is engaging and entertaining, and she does a great job of capturing the Southern charm of the story.
