The story takes place in a world where humans and elves coexist, but not without tension and conflict. The humans are divided into two factions, the Rhunes and the Dherg, while the elves are divided into three tribes, the Fhrey, the Dherg, and the Nidwalden. The Fhrey are the most powerful of the elves and are considered to be gods by the humans.
The book picks up where the previous one left off, with the Rhunes and the Dherg preparing for war against the Fhrey. The Rhunes and the Dherg have formed an alliance and are determined to take down the Fhrey, who they believe are responsible for the death of their leader, Persephone.
The Fhrey, on the other hand, are preparing for war as well. They are led by their queen, Suri, who is determined to protect her people at all costs.
