Skin Game is the fifteenth book in The Dresden Files series by Jim Butcher. It was published in 2014 and is the first book in the series to be released after a six-year hiatus. The audiobook version of Skin Game is narrated by James Marsters, who has narrated all of the previous books in the series.

The story of Skin Game follows Harry Dresden, a wizard and private investigator, as he is forced to work with his arch-nemesis, Nicodemus Archleone, to pull off a heist. Nicodemus is the leader of the Order of the Blackened Denarius, a group of fallen angels who possess powerful coins that grant their wielders immense power. Harry has had numerous run-ins with Nicodemus in the past, and the two have a long-standing grudge against each other.

The heist that Harry and Nicodemus are planning is to steal the Holy Grail from Hades, the Greek god of the underworld. The Grail is said to have the power to heal any wound or disease, and Nicodemus believes that it will give him the power to rule the world. Harry is initially reluctant to work with Nicodemus, but he is forced to do so when he learns that his daughter, Maggie, has been kidnapped by the Red Court vampires.

The Red Court was a powerful group of vampires that Harry had defeated in a previous book, but a group of survivors has been plotting revenge against him. They have kidnapped Maggie as leverage to force Harry to help them steal the Grail. Harry is torn between his desire to save his daughter and his reluctance to work with Nicodemus.

The audiobook version of Skin Game is narrated by James Marsters, who has become synonymous with the character of Harry Dresden. Marsters has narrated all of the previous books in the series, and his performance in Skin Game is as strong as ever. He brings a depth and nuance to the character of Harry that is unmatched by any other narrator.

Marsters also does an excellent job of voicing the other characters in the book. He gives each character a distinct voice and personality, which helps to bring the story to life. His performance as Nicodemus is particularly impressive, as he manages to convey the character’s sinister and manipulative nature without ever becoming over-the-top.

One of the strengths of the audiobook version of Skin Game is the pacing. The story moves at a brisk pace, with plenty of action and suspense to keep the listener engaged. Butcher is a master of pacing, and he knows how to keep the reader (or listener) on the edge of their seat.

The plot of Skin Game is complex and multi-layered, with numerous twists and turns that keep the listener guessing. Butcher is a master of plot, and he manages to keep the story moving forward while still allowing for character development and world-building.

One of the standout features of Skin Game is the character development. Harry has been through a lot over the course of the series, and he has grown and changed as a result. In Skin Game, we see a more mature and introspective Harry, one who is willing to put aside his personal grudges for the sake of his daughter.

The relationship between Harry and Nicodemus is also explored in more depth in Skin Game. The two characters have a long and complicated history, and Butcher does an excellent job of delving into their motivations and desires. The dynamic between the two characters is fascinating, and it adds an extra layer of tension to the story.

The world-building in Skin Game is also impressive. Butcher has created a rich and detailed world, filled with supernatural creatures and magical powers. He manages to seamlessly blend mythology and folklore with his own unique vision, creating a world that feels both familiar and fresh.

One of the criticisms of Skin Game is that it relies too heavily on previous books in the series. While it is true that the book does reference events from previous books, it is not necessary to have read them in order to enjoy Skin Game. Butcher does a good job of providing enough context for new readers to understand what is going on.

Overall, Skin Game is a strong addition to The Dresden Files series. The audiobook version, narrated by James Marsters, is a must-listen for fans of the series. The pacing, plot, and character development are all top-notch, and the world-building is impressive. While it may not be the best book in the series, it is still a highly entertaining and engaging read (or listen).
