City of Night is the second book in Dean Koontz’s Frankenstein series, and it picks up where the first book left off. The audiobook is narrated by John Bedford Lloyd, who does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and keeping the listener engaged throughout the story.

The story begins with Victor Helios, the mad scientist who created the New Race of beings, still on the loose and continuing his experiments. Meanwhile, his creations, led by Deucalion, are trying to stop him and put an end to his evil plans. Deucalion is a unique being, as he was the first of Victor’s creations and has the ability to sense the emotions of others.

The book is set in New Orleans, which provides a perfect backdrop for the story. The city is known for its voodoo and supernatural elements, which are woven into the plot seamlessly. The descriptions of the city are vivid and atmospheric, and the listener can almost feel the heat and humidity of the city.

The characters in the book are well-developed and interesting. Deucalion is a complex character, struggling with his own identity and trying to come to terms with his past. He is joined by a cast of other characters, including Carson O’Connor, a detective who is investigating a series of murders that are linked to Victor Helios, and Michael Maddison, a former soldier who is now working with Deucalion to stop Victor.

The plot of the book is fast-paced and full of action. There are several twists and turns throughout the story, and the listener is kept on the edge of their seat as they try to figure out what will happen next. The book also explores themes of identity, morality, and the nature of humanity, which adds depth to the story.

One of the strengths of the audiobook is the narration by John Bedford Lloyd. He does an excellent job of bringing the characters to life and giving each one a unique voice. His pacing is also spot-on, and he keeps the listener engaged throughout the story.

Overall, City of Night is an excellent audiobook that will appeal to fans of Dean Koontz and the Frankenstein series. The story is well-written, the characters are interesting, and the narration is top-notch. It is a must-listen for anyone who enjoys a good thriller with a supernatural twist.
