The story follows the life of Mercedes Ayres, a high school senior who has a secret life as a “helper” to her male classmates. Mercedes is not a prostitute, but she helps her male classmates lose their virginity by offering them a safe and comfortable environment to explore their sexuality. Mercedes believes that she is doing a good deed by helping her male classmates, but she is also using this as a way to escape her own problems.
Mercedes’ mother is an alcoholic who is rarely present in her life, and her father left the family when she was young. Mercedes’ only solace is her best friend Angela, who is also struggling with her own problems. Mercedes’ life takes a turn when she meets Zach, a new student at her school. Zach is different from the other boys at school, and Mercedes finds herself drawn to him.
As Mercedes and Zach get to know each other, Mercedes begins to question her own actions and the reasons behind them. She starts to realize that she has been using sex as a way to escape her problems and that she needs to confront them head-on.
