Secret Prey is the ninth book in the Lucas Davenport series by John Sandford. The audiobook is narrated by Richard Ferrone and runs for approximately 11 hours and 30 minutes. The story is set in Minneapolis, Minnesota, and follows the investigation of a series of murders that seem to be connected to a high-profile political campaign.

The story begins with the murder of a young woman named Heather, who is found dead in her apartment. Lucas Davenport, a detective with the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension, is called in to investigate the case. As he begins to dig deeper, he discovers that Heather was involved in a political campaign for the governor of Minnesota.

Lucas soon realizes that the murder is not an isolated incident. Several other people connected to the campaign have been killed, and it becomes clear that someone is trying to sabotage the campaign. Lucas and his team work tirelessly to uncover the identity of the killer and stop them before they can strike again.

One of the things that makes Secret Prey such a compelling audiobook is the way that Sandford weaves together multiple storylines. In addition to the murder investigation, there are also subplots involving Lucas’s personal life and the political campaign itself. These different threads come together to create a complex and engaging story that keeps the listener hooked from start to finish.

Another strength of the audiobook is the performance by Richard Ferrone. Ferrone has narrated all of the Lucas Davenport books, and his deep, gravelly voice is the perfect fit for the tough, no-nonsense detective. He does an excellent job of bringing the various characters to life, giving each one a distinct voice and personality.

One of the standout characters in Secret Prey is the killer themselves. Sandford does an excellent job of creating a complex and compelling villain who is both terrifying and sympathetic. The killer’s motivations are revealed slowly over the course of the book, and the listener is left guessing until the very end.

Overall, Secret Prey is a gripping and well-crafted audiobook that will appeal to fans of crime fiction and political thrillers. Sandford’s writing is sharp and engaging, and Ferrone’s narration is top-notch. Whether you’re a longtime fan of the Lucas Davenport series or a newcomer to Sandford’s work, this audiobook is well worth a listen.
